How will my donation to the Dugong Protection Project be used?

Your donation to the “Dugong Protection” project will be used to systematically restore and protect dugong lives.
As a “Dugong Guardian”,
you will participate in restoring the dugongs' primary food source, "seagrass beds," by working with Andaman coastal communities, home to dugongs. You will also help create an in-depth database for genuine dugong conservation:
• Restore seagrass beds in key strategic areas
• Plan to protect and closely monitor dangers to dugongs
• Establish a network of Dugong Guardians, including fishing families, young people, and volunteer teams

In addition to helping dugongs, you are also a vital force in driving overall animal protection.
Your support helps: end the abuse and exploitation of wild animals, and elevate animal welfare in Thailand as a whole.

What are the seagrass restoration plans?

Accepted Answer

Today, multi-sectoral cooperation is underway to restore the Andaman Sea. Scientists, fishing communities, government agencies, and the tourism sector are jointly restoring seagrass beds—the dugongs' sole food source. Under a 5-year plan, the goal is to restore a total area of up to 800,000 square meters along coastal areas where dugongs migrate for food, enabling the dugong population to establish and recover once again.

In the first year, World Animal Protection will lay the groundwork for mapping and surveying the situation of dugongs and seagrass beds in 4 pilot areas:
- Ao Paklok, Phuket Province
- Koh Yao Yai, Phang Nga Province
- Koh Phra Thong, Phang Nga Province
- Ao Thung Nang Dam, Phang Nga Province
Through the creation of a database on seagrass status and dugong numbers, restoration and monitoring of seagrass growth to develop pilot areas, and the establishment and strengthening of the Dugong Guardians volunteer network to continuously plan, restore, and monitor the dugong situation.

After donating to protect dugongs, will I receive any information or documents?

Accepted Answer

For those who join in protecting dugongs, you will receive various updates from the foundation (Please check the box ▢ I wish to receive news from the foundation on the donation form to ensure you receive our updates).

You will also receive:
o A certificate and souvenir set from World Animal Protection (Thailand)
o A quarterly magazine (Hero Magazine) delivered by post
o Invitations to special events related to animal protection and welfare, organized by World Animal Protection

Question 4

When will my support be charged?

Accepted Answer

The system will deduct your donation on the first day you enter your information and confirm the donation on the website. Thereafter, the system will automatically deduct funds on the 5th of every month.

Question 5

Can I use this donation for tax deduction?

Accepted Answer

Donations to World Animal Protection (Thailand) are not yet tax-deductible. However, we will send you a donation certificate for the amount you have contributed.
